Whatuni Go changes face of university Clearing recruitment

Whatuni has launched Whatuni Go – an industry-first Clearing tool – to its vast audience of prospective students across the UK. The tool allows prospective students to apply to university Clearing courses and receive an offer in principle at the click of a button without ever having to pick up the phone.

Providing students with a select list of clearing courses, Whatuni Go is designed to take the stress out of Clearing for both students and university recruitment teams. Students can get an offer in principle in ten minutes flat, while institutions benefit from recruiting students quickly and easily via an automated process instead of the time-intensive phone call . The tool will be live on the Whatuni.com website until Clearing closes on 23 October.

Ruth Plant, Bangor University Students’ Union President and member of the Whatuni Student Advisory Board, says: “I remember when I went through Clearing. I was pressured to accept an offer over the phone there and then and was told that if I hung up the offer didn’t stand. No one makes a good decision when they are feeling panicky. Whatuni Go takes the stress out of Clearing.”

Promoting Whatuni Go to prospective students

Using the strapline, “No phone calls. No drama. Just your future, a whole lot clearer,” the Whatuni marketing team is spreading the message to students that Whatuni Go is changing the face of university clearing forever.

Leading up to Whatuni Go’s student-facing launch, IDP Connect has mounted a substantial multimedia marketing campaign, including paid social media and targeted newsletters promoting the tool to thousands of year 13 students across the UK. With August’s A-level results day fast-approaching, marketing will ramp up across social media, press coverage and direct engagement.

A short, informative video on Whatuni.com details how the tool works from entering qualifications, viewing matched courses and hitting the all-important Go Apply button, which signals to users that they can apply online through the tool and click accept if they’re happy for the offer in principle to be confirmed.

What students think

The tool has been very well received by students. Ruth says: “It uses 21st century technology to simplify the Clearing process for students. I don’t like phoning the doctors, so phoning for Clearing is an even more uncomfortable experience.”

Esther Taiwo, first year student at the University of Coventry, another Whatuni Student Advisory Board adds: “I like the fact that Whatuni Go gives options for multiple universities that would accept me based on my grades. I would be happy to give Whatuni Go a try to see what my options would be. Clearing can be a stressful situation and students can feel under pressure. Whatuni Go is less invasive and takes away the stress.”
