Cyndi McLeod is an award-winning education executive with over 30 years of leadership experience in the international arena. Cyndi’s expertise lies in building strategic business and educational connections that result in growth and expansion in the institutions she has been involved in. She has led the way for numerous joint ventures between education entities in Canada, Asia, Middle East, Latin America and Europe. Her specialization is in internationalization and holds high level expertise in working in the China.
Cyndi has held senior leadership roles in the Canadian public and private education systems. She was Associate Vice-President, International & CEO, TRU World at Thompson Rivers University from 2005-09 and prior to that was Executive Director, International. From 2009 until 2014, she was Vice-President, Global Advancement, Marketing & Business Development at Royal Roads University, extending their global reach into China and securing Chinese government recognition for the university. Earlier in her career, she also worked at various levels of public and private education including roles as a faculty member and as Dean for 19 academic areas. She has done contract work in the area of tourism development and education for UNESCO. In 2017, Cyndi joined Global University Systems as their CEO, Canada with responsibility for the group’s expansion and operations in the country, which include University Canada West, Toronto School of Management, The Language Gallery, Trebas Institute and Canadian College of Technology & Business. Cyndi is also co-founder of Global Women in Education (GLOW Ed) – established in 2015, GLOW Ed is a voluntary non-profit professional network of women in the field of international education.
She holds a master’s degree in International Business and has received numerous awards in recognition of her contributions including the Canada China Business Council’s (CCBC) 5 at 50 Award in the alumni category, the British Columbia Council for International Education (BCCIE) Innovation in International Marketing Award, the Maple Leaf Medal of Excellence for Contribution to Sino–Canadian Education, recognized by Tianjin University of Technology for 15 years of successful joint degree programs with the university and studied in China after receiving a Chinese Government Scholarship from the China Scholarship Council.
